Did something dumb... safety question

Hello, I'm new here and came by because I'm worrying myself over this. I'm no expert at woodburning, and just fiddle around with it periodically with some cheap equipment. I got a hold of some old lumber and was using it, and only after burning for a good half hour realized that it was probably really stupid of me to use it- deck lumber, I'm assuming, is treated, and I think it was pine too (which from elsewhere on this board seems to be bad for fumes).

I've of course stopped using it, but I'm wondering if this is something that I need to worry about in terms of immediate safety, or just something I shouldn't do again. How dangerous are the fumes from outdoor-use lumber? From searching around for some information it's clear that it's bad for you and you shouldn't burn it, but is one woodburning session any reason to be worried, or should I just stop doing dumb things like this but not worry too much about this single exposure?

How hot is too hot??? (long post)

The other night I took the time to play with the optima woodburner and the pens I have. I planned on trying to learn the tips and what I could do with them. Alternating between the writer & shader, the pens seem to get too hot to hold. I had the power setting at about 5-6 and I could only use them for a brief time before switching to the other pen.
I want to create a power setting guide board as shown in the books....#1-10 on the dial with this tip used this way will be look like a burn like this etc...but I don't think I could get that far with the heat that was being generated. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance----

Where I've been.

Hi, Ya All!

Just wanted to apologize for my scarceness lately. It has been very hectic around here with some very serious issues the main and most important my mother's health. Shee has had a very rough couple of months. Just barely three months ago she was in a serious car accident. Her car was demolished and she received two broken ribs, an ankle and a knee. Then it hadn't even been two months since the accident she had to have an emergency appendectomy. She hadn't had time to even recover completely from the accident yet. While in surgery they found part of her Colon had been damaged from a tooth pick of all things. Mom doesn't even use tooth picks. She has had false teeth for years. They said it had to be in there for a long time. So they took out the part that was damaged and a little of her intestine. I guess it is regular procedure that they test things like that after and unfortunately they found it was cancerous. But fortunate that they found it. So never thought an emergency appendectomy would be considered a blessings in disguise let alone a miracle but it definitely was. The cancer is in an advanced stage but treatable. If she hadn't had that surgery we would not have known and the surgeon said we probably would have had only three to six months with her. But now the prognosis is good. A long and hard one but good. So we definitely have had a miracle. I have faith God is not finished with her here yet.

Then in the midst of this I have been getting ready for a family reunion, two shows and our county fair. Uuugghh!!! But the burning sure helped me through this. It helped keep my mind occupied and took some stress off. I think my burning itself suffered from it because I was so distracted but still good. And God is good ALL the time.

So there is still a lot to do with Mom but I should be able to get back to a more regular attendance.

I miss my woodburning family too. Just wanted to let ya know I sure haven't forgotten about ya all and that i do miss it alot. A lot of great stuff has been happening that I have to catch up on. So I'm off to check it out. Thanks for listening and letting me share. Please keep my Mom and my Dad in your prayers. If you pray, if not I would appreciate your positives thoughts also. I hope everyone is well and having a lot of fun burning! Till next time...

Blessings!
Tina
aka teeburn, tee

ATTENTION!!! WBF Quilters Reminder for Delayed Quilters!

Hi, Friends!

This a reminder that it has been two months since the deadline. That you still need to fulfill your commitment. Please do so as soon as possible. The other quilters have been very patient.

And I will confess and explain why I haven't sent the rest of mine yet. I have been doing this quilt for several years and have sent the squares whether i received all mine or not. But this year after seeing how many weren't being sent I decided that I wasn't sending the rest till I receive mine. I hate doing it that way but my husband and I are both on disability and in this economy every little bit can count a lot especially at the end of the month. Each year it is getting more not following through. You except one or even too but more than that is not acceptable. That is why I almost didn't do the quilt this year but I got such a great response I went ahead and did it again. So to get to the bottom line as soon as i receive a square from you, you will get a square from me. Again I hate to do it that why but I can't afford not too.

Also if you haven't received a square form me and I have received one form you please let me know and I will take care of it right away and get another out to ya. Cause I think there is two that I hadn't heard they received mine.

Sorry about the bluntness but sometimes it is necessary to emphasize importance of a matter and not intended to offend anyone in any way. So I hope no one is but if so I can't help that. I have tried my best. Thank you all.

Blessings!
tee
