Hello to All,

I've seen one gallery problem in the past week that really scared me initially. Now that I know what causes it, I'm not so scared.

The problem is that you upload a photo. Then when you click on the thumbnail (if there is a thumbnail), you get a completely blank page!! Nothing at all!

The cause: VERY large files! I know the upload area says you can upload files of 50M, but believe me, that is NOT true! I haven't had the time to find the absolute limit (it's scary to try), but I know that if the file is under 300K, there will be NO problem.

Now, I've found several of these files; files have been from 700K to 2.4 M bytes. I've downloaded the ones I've found to my computer and used Easy Thumbnail 3.0 on them. I've set the 'thumbnail' size to 800 x 800 bytes.? This is an idea size for this site.? I set the quality to 95%. The final file size was no more than 125K bytes.

So, I'm asking that you reduce the size of your uploads to no more than 250K bytes before uploading.

I had thought that the gallery software would resize the pictures, but it doesn't. So, if you've uploaded a photo and get a blank page when you try to see it, you now know the problem.

Also, I've created some additional information about using the Gallery Menu. It can be found in the Content link, under 'Gallery Information'. Everything you need to know is in there - I hope!

Easy Thumbnail is a free program, and is offered here in the Download area. I've updated that information for use in the new gallery. It can be found either in linked to the Gallery Instructions. The link is at the bottom. I've used some 'Screen shots' of the Easy Thumbnail program to make it a bit easier to follow.

Thank you and have a good day!

Ralph

This needs to be highlighted once again!

Most everyone resizes their pics before uploading, but every once in a while ....

Any pic over 250 K bytes (or around 1000 pix wide) will cause problems.

Have a good day!

OK, once again! Read this thread from the top:

I've had many pics in the past week that I've had to download and resize.

So please remember: pic width should be around 600 pixels.

Filesize should be no larger than 300K bytes.

So, once you upload a pic, if you can't see it (and you get a blank sheet if you try to click it), then it was too big - uploading it again will not help! Then you will have 2 that won't display!! If I find them, I'll fix them - it may take a while, since if I'm on travel (with my day job - like I am now), I do not always have internet access.

thank you and have a good day!

Ralph

You are welcome, Carwis!!

All of the members who have been around here for a while know this already. I have to repeat it periodically for the newer members.

Also, having smaller files allow the members to upload much faster, and allows the viewers to see them quicker. It's done so the site loads faster.

Have a good day!

Thanks for this info Ralph! It's a good idea to recheck all our albums anyway...provides an opportunity to delete old pictures and replace them with new ones. Hugs...Dannie
