Hi to all. I'm a newbie. I have been looking at patterns, but not sure how to transfer to wood. If you choose a pattern with lots of fine lines, you don't trace all? Do you just trace the main outlines? I have an inkjet printer.

I use a graphite paper to transfer the design to the wood. I do not trace all of the lines. The major lines are done and then I refer to the original drawing or picture for the shading and color variations. Just keep it fun.

I did transfer some text using carbon paper and then burned right over the carbon. It seemed to work OK, but I think I read that carbon paper wasn't the best to use. The burning is a little intimidating as I'm doing it on carved basswood Christmas presents. No room for errors.

Hi castfish, the graphite paper mentioned above doesn't smear as bad and is easier to burn over and erase than the carbon. Good luck
